Materials Needed
Yarn yardage is an estimate.

175 yards of Contrasting Color (CC - The grey in the chart - this is called out in the right hand numbered column.)
1 hook (recommended 4.0, 4.5)

Skill Level
If you a beginner, you can absolutely attempt this project. Just be patient with yourself and don't rush it!
Before you begin...
I would recommend working with a strong cotton yarn as if there is stretching a wash and dry session will likely bring it back closer to its previous shape.

Work 10 stitches at a time until it reaches around your pot (ideally without stretching however, that is up to you). Once you have figured out how many times you completed the repeat this will be your “R” in the written pattern below.

EXAMPLE: my hook is 4mm, my cotton yarn is size 4, my pot is 20” in diameter, and it took me 70 stitches to get around the pot). This means that the “R” for my pot will be 7.
Once you have reached the end, work an invisible join.

To do this: pull the loop on your hook out a bit, remove your hook. Lay your chain down into a circle and set it so the right side of your work is facing out all the way around (you need to make sure there are no twists in your work!).

Slide your hook into the top stitch of the first chain of the row from the back. Hook the loop that you pulled out and pull it through. The goal is to pull this loop into the inside of the loop.

Work one single crochet into the top of each chain. Make sure you count to be sure you have the right number of stitches when you are done. For example, given my example above I will make sure that I have 70 stitches.

Work an invisible join, make sure to work this in the BACK LOOP. This completes row 1 in the directions below.

Drape the new color over your hook and pull through. Make sure the first color is taught as well as the new color, chain once (this is only for height and to give some space).

Work one scblo in each sc of the row before. When working the double crochets, I encourage you to try anchoring stitches as this can really give some strength and stability to the project. I will link the video. Just remember to give a bit of ease to the tension so it doesn’t pull the fabric funny.

Instructions
Instructions below will be both chart and written by every 5 rows with an image of what it will look like after every five rows. REMINDER when working an invisible join at the end of each row make SURE to work it in the back loop only!
Row 1 (CC): (10 sc)x R, work invisible join and change colors, ch 1.
Row 2 (MC): (10 scblo)x R, work invisible join and change colors, ch 1.
Row 3 (CC): (4 dcflo, 3 scblo, 3 dcflo)x R, work invisible join and change colors, ch 1.
Row 4 (MC): (2 scblo, 3 dcflo, 3 scblo)x R, work invisible join and change colors, ch 1.
Row 5 (CC): (3 dcflo, 5 scblo, 2 dcflo)x R, work invisible join and change colors, ch 1.

This is what it should look like after completing row 5.

Row 6 (MC): (3 scblo, 2 dcflo, 1 scblo, 2 dcflo, 2 scblo)x R, work invisible join and change colors, ch 1.
Row 7 (CC): (2 dcflo, (3 scblo, 1 dcflo)x 2)x R, work invisible join and change colors, ch 1
Row 8 (MC): (2 scblo, 2 dcflo, 3 scblo, 2 dcflo, 1 scblo)x R, work invisible join and change colors, ch 1.
Row 9 (CC): (1 dcflo, 3 scblo, 3 dcflo, 3 scblo)x R, work invisible join and change colors, ch 1.
Row 10 (MC): (1 scblo, 2 dcflo, 5 scblo, 2 dcflo)x R, work invisible join and change colors, ch 1.

This is (mostly) what it should look like after completing row 10. Of course row 9 is the ONE row I missed a photo of, so you will see some pink dcflo from the 11th
Row 11 (CC): (3 scblo, 5 dcflo, 2 scblo)x R, work invisible join and change colors, ch 1.
Row 12 (MC): (2 dcflo, 7 scblo, 1 dcflo)x R, work invisible join and change colors, ch 1.
Row 13 (CC): (2 scblo, 7 dcflo, 1 scblo)x R, work invisible join and change colors, ch 1.
Row 14 (MC): (1 dcflo, 9 scblo)x R, work invisible join and change colors, ch 1.
Row 15 (CC): (1 scblo, 9 dcflo)x R, work invisible join and change colors, ch 1.

This is what it should look like after completing row 15.
Row 16, (MC): Repeat row 14.
Row 17 (CC): (2 scblo, (3 dcflo, 1 scblo)x 2)x R, work invisible join and change colors, ch 1.
Row 18 (MC): (2 dcflo, (3 scblo, 1 dcflo)x 2)x R, work invisible join and change colors, ch 1.

This is what it should look like after completing row 20.
Row 21 (CC): (10 scblo)x R, work invisible join and change colors, ch 1.
Row 22 (MC): (1 dcflo, (1 scblo, 3 dcflo)x 2, 1 scblo)x R, work invisible join and change colors, ch 1.
Row 23 (CC): Repeat row 21.
Row 24 (MC): (2 dcflo, (1 scblo, 1 dcflo)x 4)x R, work invisible join and change colors, ch 1.

Enjoy!

This planter cover was designed so that you can slip it on and off easily for care of the cover and care of the plant. I will be adding a couple of elements so that you can add on if you wish in order to turn it into a hanging basket - check back for those details soon!
